Notice to Mariners No. 60 of 2026 (Temporary)
SOUTH AUSTRALIA – ST VINCENT GULF - FLOATING DEBRIS
Mariners are advised that following recent heavy rainfall across catchment areas and controlled releases from local reservoirs, significant quantities of floating debris may be present in the waters of Gulf St Vincent.
Debris may include:
- Trees, logs and large branches
- Vegetation and reed material
- Timber, building materials and other flood-related debris
- Partially submerged objects that may be difficult to detect, particularly at night or in poor visibility
These hazards can pose a risk to vessels, including damage to hulls, propellers, steering systems and personal injury.
Mariners are advised to navigate with extra caution in the vicinity of river mouths, creek outlets and areas affected by stormwater discharge, where debris concentrations may be higher.
