Update - Proposed new navigation beacon on Hooper Beach - Robe

21 March 2023

The District Council of Robe and the Department for Infrastructure and Transport recently consulted with the community regarding the installation of a new navigation beacon on Hooper Beach at Robe.  The existing navigation beacon in the Sea Vu caravan park needs to be replaced and alternative locations in the vicinity were considered.

It became evident during the community consultation process that a large number of residents living in the vicinity of Hooper Beach and other beach users were opposed to this proposal.  The District Council of Robe and the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) worked collaboratively to find an alternative location for the new beacon which is essential for safe navigation.

It is now proposed to install the new navigation beacon in a private section of the Sea Vu caravan park approximately 20 metres behind the existing beacon. (Refer to map below). DIT is proposing to start these works in the next 6 to 12 months.

The District Council of Robe and the Department for Infrastructure and Transport would like to thank the Robe community for their valuable feedback and comments.

The new structure will consist of a steel pile covered with a black plastic sleeve, a platform and a light.  The structure will be approximately five metres high.  (Below is a photo of what the new beacon will look like - installed at Carpenter Rocks recently)
